A Reference Architecture for Digital Health: The Health Catalyst Data Operating System
Health Catalyst
There are essentially four strategic options to address the enterprise data platform requirements of today’s healthcare systems: (1) build your own, (2) buy from EHR vendors, (3) look to a Silicon Valley high-tech startup, and (4) partner with Health Catalyst or a handful of similar companies.
In this webinar, Health Catalyst’s CTO, Dale Sanders, comments on all four approaches, hoping to help you to assess your organization’s strategy against the options and vendors in each category.

Introduction to Machine Learning in Healthcare
Anasua Sarkar, Assistant Professor
There are two things required for the successful application of machine learning in healthcare— intelligent algorithms and rich data sets. Orion Health is at the forefront of developing both areas. We have invested in the Precision Driven Health initiative, a world-leading, multi-million-dollar research program that is investigating how the application of machine learning will enable new healthcare solutions that are more precisely tailored to a person’s unique characteristics.

Quahog Life Sciences | Solutions Overview AI & Analytics For Enterprise Healthcare
Quahog Life Sciences
Data Management Platform Capabilities. Logical Data Model. Model designed for RNN. The platform’s fundamental capability is to unify data sources and create a single data store for patient data. The platform allows the user to import data using connectors, which can be merged/joined using a simple editor. Multiple data sources can be merged to a single structured file, which can be used for machine learning or analysis. The data structure is designed using the concepts of systems biology where each unique entity or data type is extracted for available relationships from –omics databases. The data structure is hierarchical with semantic relationships

Health IT Industry Outlook Survey
Stoltenberg Consulting
As healthcare organizations jockey for operational efficiency in the competitive transition to value-based care, they note struggle to align reporting priories with practices. Forty percent of survey participants reported feeling underprepared for year 2 of the updated Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) rule, while only 12 percent indicated they are very prepared.
Other key survey findings demonstrated that while EHR adoption is nearly universal across the country, clinical application and implementation support (32 percent) remains the top 2018 IT outsourcing request, followed by IT service desk (28 percent) and financial application/system support (15 percent).
With true implementation beyond a system go live, optimizing IT/EHR performance (32 percent) and overcoming IT staff shortages (31 percent) were cited almost equally as the most significant challenges in 2018 among survey participants.

#BLOCKCHAINHEALTH

MedChain: Efficient Healthcare Data Sharing via Blockchain
Bingqing Shen et al. Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau, Macau SAR 999078, China
In this paper, an efficient data-sharing scheme is proposed, called MedChain,
which combines blockchain, digest chain, and structured P2P network techniques to overcome the above efficiency issues in the existing approaches for sharing both types of healthcare data. Based on MedChain, a session-based healthcare data-sharing scheme is devised, which brings flexibility in data sharing. The evaluation results show that MedChain can achieve higher efficiency and satisfy
the security requirements in data sharing.

HealthTech: How Blockchain Can Simplify Healthcare Compliance
Kathryn M. Bennett, Washington and Lee University School of Law
This Note broadly explores solutions to modern-day accessibility and security problems latent in electronic health records. Specifically, this Note discusses HIPAA and HITECH, the current law in place, and how blockchain technology can be used to fix the accessibility and security problems of current electronic health records. This Note proposes that blockchain technology can help a healthcare industry struggling to adhere to the current rule of law in an era of Big Data. Further, Blockchain technology can help individual consumers, particularly those with significant health issues, obtain the best possible medical care while  simultaneously keeping their private and sensitive information safe. This innovative technology offers the security and sophistication needed to usher healthcare providers and healthcare consumers into a new technological era fraught with privacy issues.
